Compostable containers

Ever increasing attention to the environment has led companies to offer their customers products made with compostable material.

When assessing these materials, crucial elements to take into account are resistance to liquids, resistance to heat and how they can be adjusted to industrial applications.

Product performance

To satisfy these requirements and with great emphasis on environmental protection, Cuki Professional has developed a new type of plastic based on polylactic acid (PLA) produced directly in the Pontinia (LT) production site, through a specific process of compounding the granule obtained from products of natural origin.

Cuki Professional has therefore launched a new line of certified compostable trays, ideal for flow-pack packaging systems and heat sealing in modified atmosphere, suitable for hot filling, pasteurisation and microwave heating.

Cuki Professional compostable trays have obtained “Compostable Certification” in accordance with the EN 13432 standard from Certiquality (the reference Certification Body), and authorisation from C.I.C. to use the “compostable” logo.

The special compostable PLA plastic-based formulation developed by Cuki Professional guarantees these containers have many useful properties:

  • high resistance to heat, so they can be used for ready-to-eat solutions and ready meals;
  • suitable for use in microwave ovens;
  • greater barrier effect compared to PET containers;
  • heat-sealability, which makes them suitable for all packaging systems.
